Monday. 1 of the guys had a really bad night and after due consideration of his condition and the fact that he could be heli-vacted out today but could not after that for about 2 days. The medical team and Chad made the decision to evacuate him. He was very upset about that but he knew he could not start walking today.
We left a bit later today at around 7am. The doctor waited for the helicopter to arrive, it was scheduled to be there around 8.30am.
They went to Port Morseby hospital for tests and he was later released and flown back to Australia on the Tuesday. On Tuseday, Tom the doctor was flown to a small airstrip in a light aircraft and met us late in the afternoon.
Still Monday. We arrived at our next camp site, Tempelton’s Crossing 2, at 3pm. The other team were about 2 hours ahead of us, camping at Trmpelton’s Crossing 1.
We all went into the creek for a wash and I did a clothes wash, 2 tee shirts, shorts, socks and 2 skins (shorts). Note: the clothes did not dry for the rest of the trip.
I had been given the tip to put my tee shirt, shorts and skins between my floor (yoga) mat and my thermorest mat (sell inflatable 2/3’s mat). That way, although my clothes were damp when I pulled them on, they were not cold.
I always had dry socks for the start of the day.
I kept my light weight track suit trousers and long sleeve tee shirt dry for night time and sleeping.
