2016 Vancouver

Flew into Vancouver for a 4 day stop before joining the Ricky Mountaineer. We indulged in a mixture of sightseeing and researching family history.

Saw some interesting Boat houses on our walk along the shore to Stanley Park.
Spent a lovely day to walk around various walks in the park ending up at a wonderful collection of Totem poles.
The Drop, at Bon Voyage Plaza.
Vancouver Lookout.
The Lion gate bridge was built by the Guinness family in 1937. They built it to make it easier to travel from their property on the West side of Vancouver into the city. When they built it it cost $6 Million dollars and they ran a vehicle and pedestrian toll until the mid 2950’s to recovered the construction cost.
Getting ready for another bridge walk, this time forward and back.
Absolutely loved this building architecture. A real modern Colosseum of Vancouver’s history. The staff were very helpful in helping Linda and I tracing some of my family who emigrated from Ireland to Canada. We were pointed to picture of where they lived and for some what regiment they were in during the First World War.
The area they moved to was called Gastown. Then it was full of poor immigrants, now it’s full of bars and restaurants. Linda is tanking in-front if the famous, still working Steam Clock.
This was where they stayed on block 200 Prior Street. I need to see if I can find out which of the three houses they lived in on that block.
