We were meant to have had 1 day at sea and visit Malta then another day at sea, but there was a berthing hiccup and we were diverted to Dubrovnik. We did not mind as we have always wanted to go back there in 1975. But for some on the cruise Malta was why they had chosen this cruise.
Crossing the bridge to the Pile Gate, the entrance to the city’s wall.
Day 4. Last night we were informed that we could not get a deep enough berth in Malta. Don’t ask me why as they have been there before. Anyway we will be doing 2 days at sea. The good news was we would be sailing to Dubrovnik. while we were sorry to be missing out on Malta, we are very happy to be revisiting Dubrovnik. We were last there in September 1975.
We both enjoyed our 2 days at sea. We had longer lie ins and easy relaxing days. Building our strength for our remaining shore visits.
Linda is happy on the Sky bridge as long as I don’t jump😁Going for dinner at the first of two formal nights at sea. Wearing my favourite Sherlock Holmes tie. The start of the first of two formal nights. End of the second relaxing day at sea. Linda concocted her own drink Chardonnay with fresh 🍉
We took the cruise shuttle bus in both ports to their respective town centres. It was our intention to just walk around both cities and hopefully not get lost.
Cruise day 2 Marseille. We got a bit lost looking for the old town. I am sure we were walking in the right area, but it seemed unclear. We decided to head to the front and had a dink in a very small but very nice Restaurant.
At last we are on our way to join the cruise we had to cancel twice because of covid and travel restrictions. Not quite the cruise we had originally booked, but the closest to it in the Mediterranean at the time of year we wanted to travel. But first a short stop in Scotland to catch up with family and a few friends. Unfortunately time did not permit us to catch up with all our friends.
I have to admit it was a freezing cold day when we visited Potsdam. But we made sure to walk around Sanssouci Park, the Dutch Village and the town centre.
Colditz was where the Germans brought their troublesome prisoners. It was supposed to be escape proof. 32 escaped but only 15 were home runs, made it Back home. 1 Belgian, 11 British, 7 Dutch, 12 French and 1 Polish escaped.
Took a he train from Leipzig to Grossbothen. The Station is deserted. Get off the train and cross the track. Now you have to walk about 250 meters on a rough road( if you can call it a road) to get to the bus stop under the rail bridge on your right. Get on the 619 bus and get off at the town, Colditz Sportplatz.
The hill on the right leads to the back gate. The only way in at night if you are staying there. Getting ready to go out the back gate and into the town for dinner. Note next to nothing was open for food. We managed to get something to eat in a a Thai cafe/restaurant. Not very plush but the food was good and you could get a wine. We met a guy from England there He was travelling on his own and also heading back to Leipzig the next day. Continue reading 2019 Colditz→
Munich Gate to the Isartorplatz On our first night we stayed local and went to a beer garden for dinner. Walked through to the courtyard where Linda picked up a bottle of wine. Continue reading 2019 Arrived in Munich from Salzburg.→
