2022 Cruise part 2 Marseille and Livorno

We took the cruise shuttle bus in both ports to their respective town centres. It was our intention to just walk around both cities and hopefully not get lost.

Cruise day 2 Marseille. We got a bit lost looking for the old town. I am sure we were walking in the right area, but it seemed unclear. We decided to head to the front and had a dink in a very small but very nice Restaurant.

The pedestrian bridge looked like a single beam from the museum to the fort. It looks very modern.
At the other side of the fort the beam like bridge links to the town.
We thought the bridge was Iron but it is concrete.
On the rooftop of the museum.
Another Arc De Triumph?
Part of the old town wall.

Day 3 Livorno. A short shuttle ride from the port. We booked a walking tour. The tour lasted just over an hour. It was very informative hearing how the Medici family developed Livorno as the first trading port in the Mediterranean. From the port a canal circulates the old town. From Livorno a canal system operated to Pisa and then on to Florence. after the tour we went for a walk around the market then stopped for a drink before heading back to the ship. We had a lovely day. Below are some images of the town.

The Medici family commissioned the same architect who planned Venice to plan the Venice section in Livorno.
The church of Saint John looks quite plain from the outside. So you need to walk in.
The main columns look marble but they are not, they are painted.
The statue is also painted to give three D effect.
St John the Confessor. He was the confessor to the head of the Medici’s wife, who, he suspected had secret lovers. When the confessor refused to divulge her confessions he was tied up and thrown into the canal as a test. He failed the test and drowned.
