2023 Paris

Our next stop was Paris for 3 nights 4 days. This was the first time we took advantage of the metro.

Below are a few photos looking out over Paris from the Montparnasse Tower. The Tower opened in 1973 and was celebrating its 50-year anniversary. The same year, we were married.
We had a drink in the bar before heading up to the rooftop for an open air view of the city.
Outside Paris Pantheon. Below are some photos from inside the Pantheon.
Victor Hugo was the first literary figure to be buried in the Pantheon in 1885.
At the top of the hill in the art Monmarte area.
Lots and lots of steps. It is almost as hard walking down as walking up.
Not one of my photos but a poster in the bar. Note the cost of drinks at the top of the hill is about double that of the small bars at the bottom.
In the back garden of the Montmartre Art Museum.
We had a lovely time watching many groups of people socialising and dancing all along the Left Bank of La Seine.
We didn’t take many photos inside the Resistance Museum. This is the stairs down to their underground command bunker after D-Day
We stayed at the Mercure Hotel at Gare De Lyon as it would be handy for our early morning train to Milan and Venice. In my opinion, the hotel was overpriced for the standard of the room. And as it turned out, an avalanche had blocked the rail line from Paris to Milan, something we only found out on Saturday afternoon. Our train was due to leave at 7.30 am on Sunday. We had to spend our last night in Paris arranging alternative transport. As it turned out, we had to fly from Paris to London, wait about six hours, then fly to Rome and stay the night there. I will post about that later.
